"Charm City" Statement
I am both a resident of Baltimore City and a voyeur. Although my years in Baltimore have desensitized me to the sound of the "police helicopters (known as “Ghetto Birds”) overhead. We all react with more concern when danger gets too close to our own homes.
This body of work focusses on the visual language of Baltimore City. The use of “X” signs are posted on the most depleted houses in the the city, as a message to the fire department to not enter. Trees are marked with “X” symbols when they are going to be removed.
My privilege allows me to enjoy the “X”s as dynamic visual moments against a colorless backdrop., Although my neighborhood has its share of crime related problems, here are no "X's on my street.
